Marcy E, Spratt, a native of Albany, New York, relocated to Lexington upon graduation from law school in 2009.   A few short months later, she joined Virginia L. Lawson & Associates, P.S.C. as a law clerk, quickly moving into an attorney position upon successful admission to the Kentucky Bar Association in October of 2009.   Since joining the firm, she has focused her practice on creditor rights in real estate and bankruptcy actions. Though Marcy’s practice revolves most heavily around creditors rights, she has also used this knowledge and skill to advise debtors as well. Marcy has worked vigorously with creditors and debtors across the Commonwealth to find unique and workable solutions to problems each face.

Marcy comes from a long line of civil servants and small business owners.  Growing up, she developed a strong work ethic and understanding of business needs and concerns while working in various family businesses.  This knowledge and experience has allowed Marcy to better understand her clients’ real world concerns and work with them in finding the best solutions for their business and personal needs.  Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs, Marcy knew she wanted to focus her law school education on business and commercial curriculum so that she would have the right tools to work with these types of clients once she entered her legal career.

As a first year law student Marcy had the opportunity to travel to Paris, France for a summer comparative law program at the Univesité Nantere X, where she chose to focus on comparative corporate law.  It was during this time, while learning about the then-developing European Union rules and regulations compared with those imposed upon U.S. Businesses that Marcy decided to pursue an MBA along with her law degree so to give her a more complete understanding of the issues her business clients – large and small – would be faced with.

While pursuing her JD/MBA, Marcy was extremely actively in the school community serving as Secretary and then President of the International Law Society, a member of the Executive Board for the Student Bar Association, and Twice-Chair of the Athletics Committee – organizing an annual intercollegiate basketball tournaments, which drew law students and alumni from many law schools throughout New England and the Northeast.  Marcy is most proud, however, of her membership on her law school’s Negotiations Moot Court team, where Marcy and her partner competed in the ABA Regional Moot Court Competition, placing second, and advancing the National Competition, where they finished in the semi-finals.  For Marcy, the moot court experience was a game-changer.  It gave her the confidence and practical skills necessary to round out her classroom education so to ready her for a challenging and rewarding legal career.
