Jake Bliss grew up outside of Louisville and attended South Oldham High School, graduating in 2001.  He has practiced law in Lexington since 2008, joining Virginia L. Lawson & Associates, P.S.C. as a law clerk in January of that year, and in October of that year Jake joined the practice as an associate.  He has been active in the continuing development of Virginia L. Lawson & Associates, P.S.C.  His practice focuses primarily on litigation in the areas of real estate, probate, family, and business law, as well as the protection and preservation of both creditors’ and debtors’ rights.

Jake attended Transylvania University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 2005.   At Transy, he was a member of the residence life staff and the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, both of which rooted him strongly to the Lexington Community, participating yearly in the University’s Crimson Christmas through Big Brothers Big Sisters and other service projects throughout the community.

After obtaining his undergraduate degree, he attended the University of Kentucky, College of Law. In his first year of law school, Jake was awarded best oral argument in his legal research and writing class.  This was a significant milestone, as it was his first oral argument in law school and set the stage for his future interests.  He served on the Moot Court Board and participated as a member of the 2007-2008 Moot Court National Team, competing in the National Moot Court Competition in Richmond, Virginia.  It was from these beginnings that Jake developed a love for the courtroom and determined to focus his practice on litigation.

As an associate attorney with Virginia L. Lawson & Associates, P.S.C., Jake has appeared in more than half of Kentucky’s 120 counties, representing both individual clients and large business interests.  In addition to litigating in the District and Circuit Courts, Jake has both appealed and defended appeals in the Kentucky Court of Appeals.  Jake has recently expanded his practice to representing individuals in family law and other civil matters and looks forward to furthering those pursuits and developing new relationships with individual clients.
